The Nerite Snail is an excellent algae eater. Like other snails, they has a voracious appetite for algae. They will also feed on the algae covering aquarium glass. They feed on hair algae, cyanobacteria, diatoms, and others. When algae levels are insufficient, supplement their diet with dried seaweed. While many snails will crawl out of the aquarium, these snails tend not to. Nerite Snails are also very sensitive to copper-based medications and high nitrate levels. Like many snails, Nerite Snails may not be able to turn themselves right side up and will die. Be sure to flip them right side up. We recommend adding 5-8 snails per 20 gallons. Of course, it all depends on how much algae there is and what other algae eaters are present.
